Refurbishing work on the stained glass windows at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey continues. One of the smaller windows on the east side of the basilica was completed last year by Conrad Schmitt Co. of New Berlin, Wisc. Work now under way on the large window on the east side of the basilica is being done by Cullen Art Glass, Lima. The window now being repaired measures 27' x 17' and was at one time the largest of its kind in America. The window at left is made up of 51 panels, with each panel containing at least 300 pieces of hand-blown glass. The windows are taken apart piece by piece, cleaned, repaired and reassembled. The windows were installed in 1929 at a cost of more than $25,000. The cost of the remaining cleaning and repairs is expected to be approximately $245,000. Photos by Brother Bryan Hoban.

President cites growth as Chamber goal

The new president for the Carey Area Chamber of Commerce says the Chamber plans to "do anything and everything we can to grow the Chamber and grow the community."

Have the courage to deal with change, speaker tells Chamber

In the face of the current economic downturn people need to take an active role in dealing with the changes that will inevitably occur in their workplace and in their lives, Dave Tippet told the Chamber of Commerce audience Jan. 25. "You have to walk the talk," he said.
