Maxine Lortz-Tiell

Maxine Mary Lortz-Tiell, 90, formerly of Fostoria and Carey, died at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
    Born May 22, 1926, in Carey, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Mary (Amerine) Ruffing. She married Henry E. Lortz on Jan. 24, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1987. She later married Francis Tiell on May 18, 1990. He preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 2007.
    Surviving are four children, John (Louise) Lortz of Upper Sandusky, Ruth Ann (Howard) Stultz of Tiffin, Janice (Roger) Mullholand of Carey, and Linda (Steve) Gretzinger of Antwerp; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, 12 step-children: Edward Tiell of New Riegel, Janet Meyer of Ottawa, Jim Tiell of Tiffin, Ken Tiell of Fostoria, Bill Tiell of Fostoria, Patricia Tiell of Fostoria, Ron Tiell of Fostoria, Dan Tiell of New Riegel, Jerry Tiell of Fostoria, Barbara Sauber of Florida, Kathy Kurtz of Findlay, and Tom Tiell of Tiffin; 35 step-grandchildren, numerous step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; four siblings, Angela (Francis) Reinhart of Tiffin, Samuel (Nina) Ruffing of Carey, Anthony (Shirley) Ruffing of Carey and Alma Case of Upper Sandusky.
    Preceding her in death were a son and daughter in-law, James and Janine Lortz; two sisters, Barbara Ruffing and Mary Lou Brickner, two great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
    A homemaker and a member of All Saints Parish in New Riegel, Maxine enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing for grandchildren, camping and loved the times she spent with family and friends.
    Family and friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, where a scripture service will be held at 8 p.m.
    A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey with the Rev. Paul Faroh, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carey.
