Phyllis Neal

Phyllis Louise (Hartschuh) Neal, 84, of Monterey Park, Calif., passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Calif.
She was born on March 6, 1933, in Sycamore, to Eldon and Corinne Hartschuh. Phyllis was a retired RN, having received her training at the Cleveland Clinic in the early 1950s. She moved to Los Angeles in 1958 and worked as a nurse in a private practice throughout the 1960s.
She married Ellis J. Neal of Albion, Ill., in 1965. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood.
She is survived by her loving family, brother, Neil E. Hartschuh; daughters, Joyce Amaro, Jeanette Gandy and Judith Valerio; grandchildren, Nathaniel Gandy, Naomi Gandy, Nehemiah Gandy, Josiah Topping, Esther Topping and Ethan Amaro; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Amaro de Abad, Andrea Gedrich, Philip Amaro, Allie Valerio and Sofia Valerio; and step-great-grandson, Dorian Abad.
A memorial service was held on Sept. 16, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif.
