Ella Smith
Ella Ree Smith, 73, Carey, died at 10:13 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 3, 1944, in Oil Springs, Ky., to Lindsey and Cora L. (Arms) Conley. She married Gabe Smith on Oct. 7, 1961, in Stockbridge, Mich., and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2009.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda D. Fletcher, Loretta S. Sherman and Lee Ann Smith, all of Carey; five grandchildren, Anthony, Leslie, Chelsey, Mara and Chase; seven great-grandchildren, Gabe, Landon, Aleah, ElliAnna, C.J., Bryce and Emma; a brother, Billy Ray Conley; and a sister, Wanda Resor, both of Jackson, Mich.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a granddaughter, Alisha Sherman; four brothers, Paul, Frank, James, and Gary; three sisters, Fay, Ann and Opal; and a son-in-law, Kevin Fletcher.
Ella had two loves, her family and church. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Carey, where she enjoyed being a part of the singers. Her family was first and foremost in her life. She loved spending time with them all, but truly enjoyed her grandchildren. She loved attending their activities.
Ella retired from Porcelain Products, formerly in Carey. She volunteered for many years at the Carey Food Pantry. She enjoyed taking walks, traveling and reading.
Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29, at First Free Will Baptist Church near Carey, with the Rev. Sid Ramey officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
