Jack Walter

Jack E. Walter, 81, of Carey, died at 3:10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
Born Nov. 16, 1936 in Wharton, he was the son of the late William and Frona (Stone) Walter. He married Susanne J. Greer and they divorced. He later married Janet Hall and they were divorced.
Surviving are five children, Karen L. Walter of Upper Sandusky; Dennis E. Walter of Upper Sandusky; J. Daniel (Nancy Krout) Walter of Carey; Mary A. (Dennis) Dible of Findlay; and Teresa J. Holsinger of Bellefontaine; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Esther Cole of Alvada; Ruth Mohn of Findlay; Naomi Davis of Findlay; Sue (Richard) Shafferly of Alvada; and a brother, Jim Walter of Carey. He enjoyed a great friendship with Bob Morehart and the late Jimmy Lonsway.
Preceding him in death were a son, Donald E. Walter; an infant daughter, Kathy L. Walter; a great-granddaughter, five brothers, Paul, Lewis, Elmer, Dale, and Stephen Walter; and a sister, Martha Saltzman.
Jack was a 1955 graduate of Carey High School and a lifelong Wyandot County farmer, retiring in 1981. He was a life member of the NTPA and was co-founder of the National Tractor Pull Championships in Bowling Green. He was a National Tractor Pull champion in 1973. He also enjoyed collecting antique tractors. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries and Eagles Aerie 2198 all in Carey.
Family and friends will be received Thursday, Jan. 11, from 3-7 p.m., at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home with the Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Bloom Cemetery near Vanlue.
