Paul Niederkohr

Paul “Wayne” Niederkohr, 76, of Carey, died on Monday, April 9, at 6:45 a.m. in the emergency room at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.
Born in Carey on Aug. 20, 1941, he was the son of the late Joseph D. and Doris M. (Beis) Niederkohr.
He married Connie Fletcher on Sept. 21, 1963. She survives in Carey.
Also surviving are their four children, Vickie Hawkins, Carey; Thad (Cindy) Niederkohr, Carey; Denise (Brent) Ellerd, Texas; and Paul Ryan Niederkohr, Carey; beloved grandchildren, Kaydri (Marcus Everly) Hawkins, Fostoria; Nathaniel (Bridgett) Hawkins, Carey; Aleena (Jadin Flugga) Hawkins, Findlay; Jennifer Garrett, Bremerton, Washington; Aaron (Kelly) Niederkohr, Carey; Adam Niederkohr, Newport News, Va.; and Christopher Ellerd, Texas; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph D. (Roberta) Niederkohr, Florida; and two special aunts, Nellie and Martha Niederkohr, both of Carey.
Wayne was preceded in death by a grandson, James “Jimmy” Hawkins and a son-in-law, James F. Hawkins.
Wayne was a 1959 graduate of Carey High School. He was a retired carpenter and land owner. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his children, grandchildren and family gatherings. He enjoyed trips to Amish country and his annual hunting trips out West. He was a brutally honest but caring man.
Wayne was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church, Carey.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 13, from 2-8 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Scripture service will be at 7:30 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, with the Rev. J.R. Hadnagy, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carey.
