Ralph Lortz

Ralph E. Lortz, 97, of Upper Sandusky and formerly of Carey, died at 10:51 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2018, at Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.
Born March 22, 1921, in Carey, he was the son of George and Mary (Weinzinger) Lortz. He married Doris M. Bouillon on Oct. 1, 1949, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel. Doris survives in Carey.
Surviving are five children, Michael E. (Vicky) Lortz of rural Wharton; Kenneth J. (Karen) Lortz of Carey; Mary A. (Charles) Eingle of Tiffin; Philip A. Lortz of Columbus; and Donna R. (Todd) Fagan of Upper Sandusky; 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Lynette M. Perkins, a granddaughter, Lorri Lortz, two great grandsons, Chase and Ryan Lortz, and four siblings, Lucille Myers, Mollie Lortz, Henry Lortz and an infant brother.
Ralph was a lifelong Salem Township farmer and also a mechanic for Creeger Implement in Carey for 23 years. He enjoyed fishing and relaxing with a good woodworking project. He was a perfectionist and was his toughest critic.
He was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 2, from 4-8 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled to be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation with the Rev. Vince Petersen, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salem Township near Upper Sandusky.
