Ramon Secord

Arlington resident Ramon Lee Secord, known as Buster by his family and Shorty by his friends, died Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 3:12 a.m. at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. He was 84 years old.
Born on May 21, 1934, in Mt. Victory, he was the son of the late Lester Dale and Lena (Davidson) Secord.
Ramon married Marjorie Cook in August of 1960. She preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 1990. He later married Barbara (Oman) Barrett and she survives in Arlington.
Also surviving are his five children, Ramon Wayne Kearns, Lima; Mindy Secord Carter, Findlay; Karen Secord, Carey; Debra Secord, Carey; and Andrew (Kim) Secord, Findlay; five grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) Critten, Ricky Carter, Ariel (Jonathan) Bailey, Alexander Secord and Olivia Secord; eight great-grandchildren, Desmon, Karli, Gabe, Jennah, Julian, Isabella, Julius and Jaxson.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Josh and Jeremy Gossman; four siblings, Dale “Juney” Secord, Marilyn “Jean” Coats, Patsy Larson, Robert “Warren” Secord; and a “brother,” Ernie Stover.
Ramon was an autobody mechanic and painter. He was the owner of Jay’s Tire and Battery in Vanlue for 20 years. He retired from O.H. Materials in 1994 after 15 years.
He was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Victory-Dudley High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea following the Korean War.
Ramon loved Vanlue, he was Vanlue Mayor in the ’70s and ’90s. He was chief of Vanlue volunteer fire department for many years. Ramon enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid O.S.U. fan.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 15, from 2-6 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 16, at the funeral home with Rick Stafford officiating. Military service conducted by Carey Honor Guard will follow at the funeral home.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Zion Bloom Cemetery, near Vanlue.
