Rosely O’Flaherty

Rosely F. O’Flaherty, 88, of Carey, died peacefully with her loving husband and their children by her side on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

Born in Carey on Aug. 25, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Solomon and Mary (Logsdon) Ruffing. Following her mother’s death in 1932, she was adopted by her aunt and uncle Inez and Jesse Stombaugh.

Rosely married her high school sweetheart, David C. O’Flaherty, on Dec. 2, 1950, at Our Lady of Consolation, Carey. David survives in Carey.

Also surviving are their seven children, Virginia Posey, Prescott, Ariz.; Daniel (Ellen) O’Flaherty, Pinckney, Mich; Deborah (Mike Sr.) Buckingham, Carey; Kathleen (Dean) Orians, Carey; Terrance O’Flaherty, Carey; Eileen (Michael) Roszman, Carey; and Colleen (Todd) Everett, Mason; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. For those who know the O’Flaherty family, she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were two sons, Charles in 1954 and Dennis (Leroy) in 1987; twin granddaughters in 1979, her parents, adopted parents and six siblings.

She was a 1949 graduate of Carey High School and a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.

Rosely had worked at Carey High School from 1975-1985, Dorcas Carey Public Library for 10 years and retired from Our Lady of Consolation School in 2017.

She was a loving wife and mother for 68 years. She loved doing counted cross stitch, puzzles, scrap booking and making latch hook rugs. She loved being with children and people and making memories of family vacations. She enjoyed traveling with her husband. She attended many of her children, grandchildren and great children’s sporting events.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 17, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A scripture service will be held at 8 p.m..

A mass of Christian burial will be Friday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, with the Rev. Tom Merrill, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carey.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Consolation School and sent to Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay Street, Carey, OH 43316-1169.
