David O’Flaherty

David C. O’Flaherty, 87, of Carey, died at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.
Born in Carey on Feb. 9, 1931, he was the son of the late Henry and Armella (Frisch) O’Flaherty.
Dave married his high school sweetheart, Rosely Stombaugh, on Dec. 2, 1950, at Our Lady of Consolation Church in Carey. She preceded him in death on Jan. 14, 2019.
Surviving are their children, Virginia Posey, Prescott, Ariz.; Daniel (Ellen) O’Flaherty, Pinckney, Mich.; Deborah (Mike Buckingham Sr.), Kathleen (Dean) Orians, Terrance O’Flaherty, Eileen (Michael) Roszman, all of Carey; and Colleen (Todd) Everett, Mason; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” O’Flaherty, Upper Sandusky; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Charles in 1954, and Dennis “Leroy” in 1987; twin granddaughters in 1979; two brothers, William and John O’Flaherty; and a sister, Margaret “Mickey” Boes.
Dave was a 1949 graduate of Carey High School and a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.
He retired from Carey Schools after 30 years, where he was the maintenance and transportation supervisor. Prior to working at the school, he and his brothers owned O’Flaherty’s Service Station in Carey. He literally painted the town after retiring. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and shooting trap and sporting clays at Broken Birdie Gun Club. He loved traveling with his wife and taking family vacations. Taking his children boating and water skiing at various lakes in Ohio and Michigan was a must. He was an avid Carey Blue Devils fan and loved watching his grandchildren compete.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 10, from 1-6 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A scripture service will follow at 6 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, with the Rev. Tom Merrill, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carey.
