Melvin Blair

Melvin Blair, 72, of Harpster, died at 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born July 20, 1946, in Springfield, he was the son of the late Homer and Perlie (Crace) Blair. He married Patricia L. Martin and they divorced. He later married Sandra L. “Sandy” Drake Berry on August 9, 1997, in Townsend, Tenn., and she survives near Harpster.
Surviving are his children, Lee H. (Nicole) Blair of Morral; and Heather L. (Jerry) Smalley of Upper Sandusky; three step-sons, Robert S. Berry III and Craig A. (Tracy Greene) Berry, both of Bucyrus; and Jamey C. (Christy Severns) Berry of Marion; 16 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ruthann Conley of Oil Springs, Ky.; Josephine Conley and Carolyn Sue Hogan, both of Carey; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Homer Jr, Ernest and James Blair; and four sisters, Lillian Conley, Lovella Baldwin, Vivian Blair and Lillie Marie Blair.
Melvin worked at Claycraft Company and retired from Dana Corporation both in Upper Sandusky.
He loved gardening and traveling with Sandy. He enjoyed relaxing and listening to country music. In his early years, he enjoyed playing softball in different leagues around the area.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, April 15, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Melvin’s funeral service will be held the same day at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Randall Haney officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
