Rodney Traxler

Rodney L. Traxler, 66, of Carey, died Saturday, June 29, 2019, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Ottawa County.
Born on June 10, 1953, in Upper Sandusky, he was the son of James D. and Eva Delle E. (Beagle) Traxler. His mother survives in Carey. He married Lois J. Lonsway on Sept. 26, 1975, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Frenchtown. She survives in Carey.
Also surviving are six children, Rodney J. Traxler, Kirby; Jeremy R. (Jolene) Traxler, Upper Sandusky; Jessica J. Henderson, Nevada; Joshua A. (Heather) Traxler, Carey; Jillian M. (Chris) Makeever, Nevada; and Joseph L. (Rachal) Clinger, Upper Sandusky; 15 grandchildren, Rodney “Roddy”, Max, Samson, Jordan, Josie, Jacob, Jevin, Joslin, Taylor, Brennan, Kenzlee, Lexia, Ella, Jaxsen and Carter, two sisters, Sharon A. (Roger) Kloepfer and Marla M. (Spence) Barber, both of Carey; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His father and a granddaughter, Faith, preceded him in death.
Rodney was a 1971 graduate of Carey High School. He worked for O.H. Materials in Findlay and Vaughn Industries in Carey for many years. For the past six years you would find Rodney working in the concession stands at all the Carey sporting events. He made a mean batch of popcorn. He, along with his wife, were foster parents for 26 years. He was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He made weekly trips to Amish country for cheese, eggs and a piece of Mary’s cherry pie. Rodney loved his family more than anything. He looked forward to spoiling his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 4,  from noon-6 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, July 5, at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, with the Rev. John Bamman, OFM, Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carey.
