Carroll “Karo” Hill

Carroll L. “Karo” Hill, 79, of rural Carey, died Monday, March 16, 2020, at his residence.

Born in Carey on Aug. 15, 1940, he was the son of the late Ralph and Opal (Eingle) Hill.

He met Diane J. Chaffee in 1968 and they married. She survives in rural Carey.

Also surviving are seven children, Rick (Stephanie) Hill, Carey; Warren (Robin) Smith, Carey; Wanda (David) Bushong, Mt. Blanchard; Reg (Deb) Hill, Carey; Monica (Jim Messersmith) Wentz, Carey; Randy (Julie) Hill, Carey; and Ryan (LaGonda) Hill, Carey; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marge Hill, Grove City, and Christine (Bob) Nye, Carey.

Carroll was preceded in death by four brothers, Franklin “Ike,” Harlow, Roger and George Hill, and three sisters, Juanita Bore, Barbara Puckett and Constance Patton.

Carroll was a 1958 graduate of Carey High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Panama with the 82nd Airborne from 1958-1960.

He retired from RCA Harris as a millwright. He was a “jack of all trades” when it came to construction and loved sharing his knowledge with his children and grandchildren. They could count on him to save the day.

Carroll was a member of American Legion #344, Carey, and Tri-County Tractor Pullers. He collected John Deere tractors for many years. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, wheeling and dealing at sales and riding motorcycles.

Visitation will be Friday, March 20, from 5-8 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.

A graveside service will be Saturday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey, with the Rev. Ted Thomas officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Carey Honor Guard.
