John Sammet

John E. Sammet, 86, of Carey, died Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at 4:47 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.
Born in Carey on April 17, 1933, John was the son of the late Paul and Blanch (Ogg) Sammet.
He married Marilyn J. Schmuck on Dec. 23, 1953. She preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 2014.
Surviving are their two sons, Timothy (Barb) Sammet, Carey, and Paul (Kandy) Sammet, Sycamore; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Tammy, Cory and Danielle; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Noah, Bryton and Zoey. Also surviving is a sister, Mary E. Rickle, Wharton.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, David, Joseph and Franklin Sammet and three sisters, Esther Bristoll, Ruth Barton and infant Dorothy Sammet.
John was a 1951 graduate of Carey High School. He was a Korean War Era veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. A masonry expert, he worked 39 years for Mosser Construction in Fremont.
He loved being outdoors, especially cutting wood. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was a 72 year member of Christ Lutheran Church in Carey.
Due to health and safety considerations, there will be no public visitation. A private graveside service will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey, with the Rev. William Schultz officiating. Military representation will be present to honor his service to our country.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or Carey Food Pantry and sent to Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay Street, Carey, OH 43316.
