William Shonkwiler

William Ezra “Bill” Shonkwiler, 82, of Carey, passed away at 6:07 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at home with his family close.
Bill was born in Ruggles on July 24, 1937 to the late Frank E. and Olive (Spafford) Shonkwiler. He married Sally O. Young on June 25, 1956 in LaGrange, Ind. Sally survives in Carey.
Bill is survived by five children: William E. (Ruth) Shonkwiler Jr. of Nevada, Kewanee (Dave) Lohr of Carey, Barbara J. (Terry) Callahan of Columbus Grove, Brenda L. (John) Logan of Kenton and Frank E. Shonkwiler of Carey; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Phyllis J. Miller of Mansfield, and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five siblings.
Bill was a truck driver for several different companies until he started his own trucking business. He loved driving trucks and Harley Davidson Dressers almost as much as he loved his family.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
