Maurice Logsdon

Maurice Frederick Logsdon, 96, died Sunday, July 19, 2020, at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
Maurice (Maury) was born on Sept. 4, 1923, in Upper Sandusky. He attended St. Peter Parochial School and Upper Sandusky High School, where he was elected president of his senior class. Maury attended John Carroll University prior to joining the Army Air Corps. He enlisted in January 1943, and became a bombardier/navigator on the then new B-29 Superfortress. Maury was stationed on Tinian, Guam and the Mariana Islands from where he flew 22 combat missions (and several air aborts) flying to and from Japan. Additionally, Maurice flew the last mission of the WWII Pacific Theater of Operations in August 1945. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 6, 1946 as a first lieutenant. He returned to Ohio where he finished his college degree in business and accounting. He was a Nationwide Insurance agent before his long career as VP-Treasurer of Ruttmann Construction Companies.
Maury married his high school sweetheart, Carol Catherine Miller, in 1947. He and Carol raised seven children while active as members of St. Peter’s Church. Maury sang in the choir, was a eucharistic lay minister, mass server and reader; and together with Carol, gave talks to engaged couples and at Marriage Encounters. They stayed active until his dear wife, Carol Catherine, joined the angels in 2001.
Maury was also preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Odelia (nee Seifert) Logsdon; his six brothers and their spouses, Louis, Lawrence, Gerald, Richard, Robert and Bernard Logsdon; his brother-in-law, Thomas Vogel; his daughter-in-law, Janice (nee Horton) Logsdon; and his granddaughter, Rebecca Gill. Maurice also was preceded in death by special friends Joseph J. Browne, M.D. and Joseph (Joe) and Mary Nucifera.
Surviving are his seven children, Patricia (Graham) Gill, Columbus; Philip (Celia) Logsdon, Reading, Mass.; David Logsdon, Medina; Maureen Logsdon, Sandia Park, N.M.; Brian Logsdon, Great Falls, Mont.; Eileen Bugée, Germany; and Dennis (Lisa) Logsdon, Tijeras, N.M.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Helen Vogel; his sister-in-law, Sarah Logsdon; and his special friends, Katie Thiel and Freda Browne.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there will be no calling hours, funeral mass or burial services.
