Esther Cole

Esther C. Cole, 97, of rural Alvada, passed away at 10:54 p.m. Tuesday, July 21,2020.

Esther was born in Wyandot County on May 14, 1923, to the late William and Ethel (Kloepfer) Walter. On Jan. 7, 1942, Esther married Carlton M. Cole and he passed away on July 6, 2015. The marriage was blessed with sons, Gary M. (Peggy) Cole of Prescott, Ariz., and Edwin D. (Judy) Cole of rural Alvada; daughters, Jeanie McCree of Naples Fla., Sue Cook of Perrysburg, and Debra (Ned) Niswander of Bluffton. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, Cynthia Cole, Keanen Cole, Ross Sorenson, Jill Birkholz, Stephanie Linehan, Shari Mueller, Phillip Sherick, Sara Hensley, Amanda Plattner, Carl Cole, Austin Cole, Kevin Cole, Kellie Cole Gregg, Eleanor
Garland, Paige Marshall, Joshua Niswander, Jenna Bernard and Julianne Burkholder; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Mohn of Findlay, Naomi Davis of Findlay, and Sue (Richard) Shaferly of Alvada; and a brother, James Walter of Carey.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Dianna Jane Cole; step-mother, Frona (Stone) Phillips; and brothers, Paul, Lewis, Elmer, Jack, Stephen and Dale Walter; and sister, Martha Saltzman.
Esther was a longtime member of West Independence United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, needle point, ceramics, cooking, bird watching and word puzzles.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at West Independence United Methodist Church, Fostoria. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. before the service. The Rev. Mark Weatherman will officiate. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Vanlue.
Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Esther to the West Independence United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
