Juanita Chavana

Juanita A. Chavana, 85, of Carey, died at 8:28 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on Feb. 27, 1935, in Clarkwood, Texas, to Jose and Margarita (Gonzalez) Amaya. She married Gonzalo “Pancho” Chavana and they were divorced. Her companion of 46 years, Joe Macias, survives in Carey.
Juanita is survived by three children, Linda Gibson, Maria Vasquez and Mauro “Marvie” Chavana, all of Carey; eight grandchildren, Steve, Jeremy, Joshua, Tommy, Jason, Brittany, Mike and Marcos; 16 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Delphina Tey of Fostoria and Christina (Jose) Gomez of Carey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Eloy G. Chavana; two brothers, Rosendo and Joe Amaya; and a sister, Celia Herrera.
She retired from Budd Company in Carey after years of service.
Juanita was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey Conservation Club, Eagles Aerie 2198, American Legion 344 and VFW 3759 auxiliaries, all in Carey. She loved cooking for her family and shopping whenever she got the chance.
Friends will be received Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 4-8 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. The funeral service was scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with the Rev. Tom Merrill, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carey.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Consolation Church and sent to the funeral home.
