B. Keith Cossey
B. Keith Cossey, 74, of Carey, passed away peacefully at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, in his home with family by his side.
Born on April 6, 1946, in Lawrence, Kan., he was the son of Angus Burton and Roxie Claire (Viesselman) Cossey. He married Jean A. Thomas on Nov. 22, 1979, and she survives in Carey.
He is also survived by two children, Carrie M. (Patrick) Clough of Marion, Iowa; and Jude G. Cossey of Taiwan; three step-daughters, Sarah (Mike) Mays and Elizabeth (Matt) Femia, both of Cincinnati; and Edith (Dan) Duran of Wood River, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and a brother, Craig Cossey of Eaton Rapids, Mich.
Keith graduated from East Lansing High School in 1964. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Norwich University in Vermont. His desire to learn continued even into his mid 60s when he received a master’s degree in humanities from Tiffin University.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served two tours.
Keith retired from the U.S. Postal Service. While living in Michigan, he was a mentor for juvenile delinquents.
He was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation and the K of C 1925, both in Carey.
Keith loved reading, writing and walking. He walked the Alaskan Highway as a teenager and later in life part of the Camino in Spain with his wife, Jean.
Keith requested a private graveside service be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carey, with the Rev. Xavier Goulet, OFM Conv., officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorcas Carey Public Library and sent to Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
