David Prater

David L. Prater, 62, of Vanlue, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 8, 1958, in Findlay to the late Roy Lee and Shirley Ann (McRill) Prater. He married Cindy L. Garbers on Oct. 22, 1988, and she survives in Vanlue.
Surviving are six children, Amy (Mark) Kuhlman of Toledo; Dawn (Leon) Caudill of Vanlue; Matthew (Jen) Prater of Forest; Kelly (Aaron) Beidelschies of Upper Sandusky; Corey (Heather Schroeder) Prater of Findlay; and Adam (Ashley) Prater of Findlay; 12 grandchildren; two siblings, Michael (Christina) Prater of Altus, Okla.; and Mindy (Mark) Boyd of Vanlue; and several nieces and nephews.
David graduated from Vanlue High School in 1976. He worked at Superior Trim in Findlay and later at Equity Meats in North Baltimore. He was a member of Vanlue Community Church in Vanlue.
David was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching the purple martins do what they do outside his home in the extensive collection of purple martin bird houses. He and his wife were 4-H advisors for the Vanlue Shamrocks when their children were growing up. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Ohio State Buckeyes.
He loved spending time with his family, especially during Christmas season.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the funeral home with the Rev. Melanie Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Van Horn Cemetery near Vanlue.
