Mary E. Mathias, 80, of Carey, passed away at 12:56 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at Birchaven Village in Findlay with her daughter, Jodi, by her side.
Born June 19, 1940, in Carey, she was the daughter of John and Virginia (Cupp) Drummond. She married Donald E. Mathias Sr. on Dec. 8, 1962, and he passed on Nov. 2, 2009.
Surviving are five children, Donald Mathias Jr. of Vanlue, Timothy Mathias of Arizona, Jodi Mathias of Findlay, Monte Mathias of Florida and Selina (John) Evener of Upper Sandusky; six grandchildren, Dalton, Tiffani and Connor Mathias, Peyten, Avery and Isabella Evener and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Bob (Peggy) Drummond of Vanlue and a sister, Dorothy Young of Findlay.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jeffrey L. and Jon E. Mathias; and two brothers, John Jr. and Charles Drummond; and a sister, Doris Bonzheim.
Mary was baptized in the E.U.B. Church (Memorial United Methodist Church) in Carey in 1952 and was a member of the former Bethel Church in Vanlue. A 1958 graduate of Carey High School, she worked at RCA and Super 8 Motel both in Findlay for several years. However, her true love was being a care giver to the elderly and babysitting for many years.
Mary loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and was an animal lover. She considered herself Ms. Fix It. She was not afraid to tackle many of her home repairs and was usually successful.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Her funeral service will follow at 4:30 p.m. with Chaplain Linda Davison officiating. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
