Born Nov. 9, 1939, in Seneca County, he was the son of the late Nicholas T. and Germaine V. (Ruffing). He married LaDonna R. Bumb on Nov. 24, 1962, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Frenchtown. LaDonna survives in Carey.
Surviving are three children: David (Deborah) Hucke of Celina, Dennis (Victoria) Hucke of Findlay and Laura (Daniel) Mathias of Alvada; eight grandchildren: Dixie (Joe) Granger, Dakota Hucke, Matthew Hucke, Mitchell Hucke, Aubrey Hucke, Amber (Tom) Lange, Ashley (Austin) Kuhn and Abigail Mathias; and two great-grandchildren: Jace Granger and Sophia Kuhn. He is also survived by two brothers: Carl E. (Judy) Hucke of Carey and Robert T. (Joni) of LaFayette, Ga.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred J. Hucke.
Dick graduated from Carey High School in 1958. He went to work in the former Swan Rubber in Carey. He retired as a welder from National Lime and Stone in Carey after 34 years of employment, but what he really loved was being a lifelong farmer. Playing in dirt was always better than playing in stones.
His faith was very important to him and he was a lifelong member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. He was a third degree member of the K of C 1925 in Carey, as well as a member of the Eagles Aerie 430 in Fostoria.
Family was everything to Dick. He loved following his children and grandchildren as they participated in extra curricular activities. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and tinkering with many projects around the farm.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Dec. 17, from 3-7 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A mask will be required.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, with the Rev. Tom Merrill, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carey.
