Melvin Nash Sr.

Melvin E. Nash Sr., 77, of Carey, passed away unexpectedly at 3:31 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 20, 1943, in Vincesses, Ind., son of the late James A. and June (Hamm) Nash. He married Martha Ann Kromer on Aug. 2, 1969, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 1993.
Surviving are his son, Melvin E. “Shorty” Nash Jr. of Carey, a brother, Dale Nash and a sister, Rosalee Self, both of Vincesses, Ind.
Preceding him in death was a brother, James J. Nash.
Melvin worked at Carey Plastics, now Toledo Molding and Die, for 30 plus years.
He was a devout Catholic. He could be seen walking to church everyday for mass. Melvin felt a day without church is a bad day.
He was a member of the K of C 1925 in Carey. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, as evidenced by his house during the summer. He loved animals, especially his cats.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, with the Rev. Tom Merrill officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carey.
