Gregory Thomas
Gregory S. Thomas, 62, of Carey, passed at 9:40 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at O.S.U. Wexner Medical Center, Ross Heart Hospital in Columbus.
Born Dec. 15, 1958, in Findlay, he was the son of the late Winfield and Sandra (Morrison) Thomas. He married Lucinda “Cindy” Winston on Aug. 8, 1978. Cindy survives in Carey.
He is also survived by his son, Brandon Thomas of Carey; two grandchildren, Olivia and Poppy June Thomas; and three siblings, Todd (Patty) Thomas of Vanlue, Joel (Mary Jane) Thomas of Perrysburg and Tay (Jerry) Lenhart of Findlay.
Greg was a 1977 graduate of Vanlue High School. He worked at National Lime and Stone in Carey and Findlay for 32 years. He kept active with several “odd” jobs, which included custodial duties at the Shrine Cafeteria, Dorcas Carey Public Library and Hometown Market Place, all in Carey. He also assisted with funerals and maintenance at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey and served as athletic director at Vanlue Schools for five years. Yes, he was a busy man. If that wasn’t enough, he also officiated basketball games all over northwest Ohio with his good friends, John Nye and Dean Plott.
Greg loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters and friends. He enjoyed sharing his political views with anyone who would listen and swinging the golf clubs whenever possible.
Friends will be received 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. The service will follow at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorcas Carey Public Library and sent to Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay Street, Carey, OH 43316.
