Gerald Clinger
Gerald “Jerry” L. Clinger, 77, of Sycamore, died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at Dublin Methodist Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 17, 1943, in Bucyrus, to Henry and Dorotha (Pool) Clinger. He married Janice Kathy (Riedel) Clinger on Feb. 17, 1962, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey L. (Michelle) Clinger, rural Tiffin; and Rodney A. (Jennifer) Clinger, rural Sycamore; plus four grandchildren, Trevor, Chris, Alec and Chelsea Clinger; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, David E. (Jenny) Clinger, Kendallville, Ind.; Dan (Ann) Clinger, Findlay; Ron (Sue) Clinger, Defiance; and Bob (Michelle) Clinger, Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Clinger, besides his parents.
Jerry was a plumber/pipefitter all of his life, starting out working for Burks and Needles, then part owner of Needles and Associates, then part owner of Wyandot Construction and currently co-owner of Clinger Mechanical.
He was a member of the Sycamore United Church of Christ, a 1961 graduate of Mohawk High School and was a member of Mohawk’s first football team. He served at one time on the board of the Mohawk Community Investors, was a member of NOVFA (Northwest Ohio Volunteer Firemen Association), was a member of the Sycamore Businessmen’s Association and at one time served on the Community Improvement Corporation for the Village of Sycamore. He was a 54-year member of the Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department and EMS. He served the fire department 17 years as fire chief and was also an arson and fire investigator. He managed the Kirby tire fire as chief and was very pivotal in the building of the former Sycamore Community Center.
For hobbies he loved to hunt, fish, trap shoot, but really loved to work in his woodshop and spend time with his family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Dr. Matthew Zuehlke officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore. Visitation will be held the same day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. prior to the memorial service.
