Shirley Lee Lee

Shirley Lee Lee, 86, of Findlay, passed away at 10:30 p.m., Friday, April 2, 2021, in her home. She was born on Sept. 16, 1934, in Arlington, to the late Lee and Cleo (Wertenberger) Gillespie. She married Richard R. Lee on Oct. 18, 1953, and he survives.
Shirley is also survived by her sons: Thomas R. (Debra) Lee of Vanlue and Andrew R. (Erika) Lee of Westerville; daughters: Debra L.(Russ) Lindsey of Washington Court House and Diane J. (Jeff) Hannah of West Salem; brother, David (Polly) Gillespie of Sevierville, Tenn.; sister, Jane (John) Delury, Roseville, Calif.; grandchildren: Jay R. (Tiffany) Lindsey of Washington Court House, Kinsy M. (Luke) Pilmore-Lee of Carey, Candis J. (JG) Conley of Wilmington, Joshua A. (Amanda) Calame of Ashland, Cally J. Felger (Alex) of Findlay, Jenna N. Hannah of Gassaway, W.Va.; and great-grandchildren Caden Pilmore, Angel Sheets, Savanah Hannah, Bailee Chapman, Jaxon Wallace, Reagan Lindsey, Sawyer Conley and Jacob Calame. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Jeremy Hannah.
Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Arlington High School. She was a member of Vanlue Christ United Methodist Church, where she held many positions throughout the years which included, worship leader, directing the choir, teaching Sunday school and being active in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. Shirley began her career in Findlay supporting doctors as an administrative assistant. From 1970-2008, she enjoyed many different positions at Vanlue Schools. Shirley retired as the administrative secretary where she worked through the years for 16 superintendents and 15 principals.
Shirley also was involved with their family farm, where for 68 years she managed the finances. She had been active with Youth for Christ and the City Mission of Findlay. She was a member of the Emmaus, Women’s Aglow Fellowship, Vanlue Garden Club and Hancock County Secretary’s Association.
She attended The Ohio State University and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, having attended their basketball games from 1977-2010. Shirley was extremely proud that her four children all obtained college degrees. She was the consummate advocate, counselor, pillar and captain for her family, community and parishioners.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Vanlue Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Greene, the Rev. Erma Metzger and the Rev. Dave Noel officiating. Interment will be in Lee Cemetery.
Visitation will be held April 12 at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, and one hour (10-11 a.m.) prior to the service at the church.
