Richard Funkhouser

Richard (Dick) Neal Funkhouser, 83, of Vanlue, died Monday, July 5, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus after a brief battle with cancer.
Dick was born Oct. 10, 1937, in Tiffin, to Neal and Verena (Gurney) Funkhouser. He was married to Sylvia Louise Stover on July 2, 1966, and later divorced. He then married Betty Robinette July 25, 1987, and she died on Jan. 3, 2021.
He is survived by three children and three step-children, Joseph (DeAnn) Funkhouser, Upper Sandusky; Neal Funkhouser, Upper Sandusky; Rea (Bob) Hesson, Arlington; Marvin (Patty Hartman) Robinette, Upper Sandusky; Jackie Fox, Sandusky; and Jim (Pauline Mitten) Carte, Carey. He has eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. Also surviving are siblings, Kenneth (Connie) Funkhouser, Pat Betts and James (Beverly) Funkhouser.
Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1960 as a demolition specialist earning his GED in 1959. He worked as a fabricator/welder and mechanic for a variety of businesses and retired from United Parcel Service as an automotive supervisor in 1995. He continued to work part-time after retirement for many years.
Dick enjoyed boating, woodworking, feeding wildlife in his backyard and traveling across the United States with his wife, Betty.
At Dick’s request there will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
