Vicki Kitzler
Vicki Lynn Kitzler, 67, a lifelong resident of Carey, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay following a brief illness.
On Dec. 5, 1953, Vicki was born in Findlay, the oldest of four children of the late O. Dwight and Emma Joan (Long) Nye. She graduated from Carey High School in the class of 1972.
During school, Vicki fell for one of her classmates, David Kitzler, becoming high school sweethearts during their senior year. They were married soon thereafter on Sept. 6, 1974. They were one month short of sharing 47 wonderful years together.
After quick stops at Mary Ann’s Dress Shop, the Carey Progressor Times and Westinghouse, Vicki worked for 17 years for Commercial Savings Bank (now Premier Bank). She then worked in the office of the local ophthalmologist, Dr. Harry Bash. Lastly, she worked at Dorcas Carey Public Library, where she felt deeply fulfilled until she retired in August of 2020.
Having a strong Catholic faith, Vicki was an active lifelong member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church.
With a love for the ocean, Vicki enjoyed traveling to a beach every chance she could and she especially loved Navarre Beach on the gulf of Florida. She also enjoyed musicals, shopping and rooting on the Ohio State Buckeyes football team and all Carey Blue Devils sports teams. But, above all, she loved spending time with her five grandchildren.
Most important of all to Vicki was her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who especially adored her five grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, David Kitzler of Carey; two daughters, Valerie (Jeremy) Niederkohr of Westerville, and Kelli (Duffy) Everhart of Sunbury; five grandchildren, Madison, Carter, Reagan and Jackson Niederkohr and Deegan Everhart; three siblings, Carol Jo Treece of Findlay, Brian (Denise) Nye of Lima, and Jennifer (Jess) Barker of Carey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family will greet friends from 2-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, with the Rev. John Bamman, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carey.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dorcas Carey Public Library and may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
