Kurt Schmitz
Kurt L. Schmitz, 55, passed away on Sept. 29, 2021. Born on June 30, 1966, in Carey, to Earl and Alma Schmitz, loving husband to Mary (Freeman), devoted father to Jacob and Melody, brother to Janet Bonner (Douglas), Kim Schmitz, Kris Schmitz (Liz), Jill Marugg (Don) and Tamara Korchak (Paul). Brother-in-law to Gary Freeman (Margaret) and David Freeman (Ellen). Uncle to Lindsey (Brian), Nate, Olivia (Rob), Addison, Ian (deceased), Noah, Greg, Stephanie, Sara, Victor, Adam, Taley, Aaron and Jocelyn.
Kurt graduated from Carey High School in 1984 and went on get his bachelor of architecture degree from Kent State University. He was hired by ADA Architecture Firm in Lakewood in 1994 and became a partner in 1998. He was the director of design and later the vice-president. He was a member of St. Jude Church in Elyria. Kurt will also be remembered as a true outdoorsman who loved hunting, snowmobiling and camping.
Kurt’s true love was his family and just recently became semi-retired to spend more time with them. He was active with Cub Scout Troop #133 and Boys Scout Troop #107 where his son Jacob received his status of Eagle Scout. Kurt also coached his daughter Melody in track at St. Jude and was very proud of her accomplishments.
We celebrate the fact that Kurt is home with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and that we will one day see him again!
