Danielle Hertel

Danielle Nicole Hertel, 35, of Carey, passed away after a two and a half month battle with COVID at 4:28 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus with family by her side.
Born Sept. 14, 1986, in Findlay, Danielle was the daughter of Randall G. Hertel and Kewanee S. (Shonkwiler) Lohr. Her mother and step-father, Dave Lohr, survive in Carey. Her father and step-mother, Carolee, survive in Findlay.
Danielle was the proud mother of two beautiful daughters: Braelyn and Skylar Jesko. She loved doting over and spoiling them as much as possible. She enjoyed the title, Baton Mom, as she watched them perform with the BW Twirlers. Being the “favorite aunt,” she attended many extracurricular activities of all her nieces and nephews. Simply put, she loved her family and life.
After graduating from Carey High School in 2005, she headed into the working world until daughter number two came along. A licensed STNA, she worked at the Wyandot Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky for several years. She also enjoyed working at the Wildcat Café in Vanlue. But, nothing pleased her more than being a mom and homemaker. The family called her the Clean Freak. For relaxation, she enjoyed camping and was a huge fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines.
Danielle is survived by her fiancé, Chris Jesko of Carey; seven siblings: Cory (Sandra) Hertel of Findlay, Tracy Williams of Bascom, Randy “Uncle Butt Crack” (Stacy) Hertel, Chad (Janet) Hertel and Shane (Jacklyn) Hertel, all of Carey, Martina Boren and Maranda Hertel, both of Findlay; maternal grandmother, Sally Shonkwiler of Carey; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, William Shonkwiler and paternal grandmother, Nancy Lou Campbell.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Danielle’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God in Carey, with the Rev. Joe Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with expenses.
