DeAnna Spurlock
DeAnna L. Spurlock, 82, of Upper Sandusky and formerly Carey, passed away peacefully at Independence House in Fostoria.
DeAnna was born in Anna, Ill., on Nov. 17, 1939, to the late Dorris “Hank” and Gladys (Murphy) Hankla. Here, she attended Anna-Jonesboro High School graduating in 1957. While in school DeAnna met Ted B. Spurlock and quickly became high school sweethearts. Shortly after graduation the two were married on DeAnna’s birthday in 1957. Ted passed away Oct. 20, 2012.
DeAnna and Ted moved to Carey in 1972 when Ted found employment with The Essex Company. While living in Carey, DeAnna and Ted raised three children and took countless trips to southern Illinois to visit family and friends.
DeAnna was never able to sit still. Any chance she had she would be off with her family or friends to Amish country and could be found eating out. She also was a Bingo player and loved to visit casinos.
Above all, DeAnna loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She made sure no one went hungry and was family famous for her chicken dumplings and homemade noodles.
Being a woman of faith, DeAnna was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky.
DeAnna will be missed by her children, Tammy (Bob) Buckland of Carey, Todd (Jill) Spurlock of Findlay, and Tim (Connie) Spurlock of Carey; grandchildren, Keith (Maranda) Spurlock, Molly (Adam) Beach, Amber Spurlock, Ben (Kortney) Buckland, Bobbi (Brian “Pete”) Thompson, Kelly (Joe) Weber and Alexa (P.J.) Spayde; great-grandchildren, Graham, Abel, CeCe, Violet, Charley, Bralin, Baylor, Claire and Ada; first cousins, Ron (Janice) Garner and family of Anna, Ill.; and Barb (Charley) Hileman and family of Evansville, Ind.
In addition to her parents and husband, DeAnna was preceded in death by her brother, Jeff Hankla.
A funeral will be held at Stombaugh Batton Funeral Home in Carey on Wednesday, April 20, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kathleen Shuck officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in August at The Casper Cemetery in Anna, Ill. The family would like all attending services at the funeral home to wear a mask.
