Richard Williams

Richard W. “Dick” Williams, 86, of Upper Sandusky, died unexpectedly at 11:57 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the emergency room at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, with his wife by his side.
Born Aug. 28, 1935, in Wyandot County, he was the son of John E. and Grace E. (Twining) Williams. After some serious nudging, he talked Patricia A. Gatchell into marrying him on Aug. 27, 1956. Patricia survives in Upper Sandusky.
Dick graduated from Carey High School in 1953, where he played on some very successful basketball and football teams. He then spent the next 47 years working at Wyandot Dolomite, Inc. in Carey. Most would remember him as the front end loader operator. He and Pat also operated a duck and turkey farm west of Upper Sandusky for 50 years.
Dick had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. If he didn’t pick on you, he probably didn’t like you. He was a huge sports fan, especially football. He spent many Friday nights watching the Riverdale Falcons and Saturday afternoons watching the Michigan Wolverines.
His family was his number one priority. He always enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in extracurricular activities.
Dick leaves behind three daughters, Cynthia (Howard) Brunty of Sycamore, Deborah (Tim) Rife of Upper Sandusky and Victoria (Granell) Tyson of Toledo; 14 grandchildren, Tim (Christen) Brown, Diana Myers, Samantha (Sarah) Brunty, Megan Brunty, Dayna Kappenman, Carrie (Luke) Cloughen, Anthony Hall, Brooke (Ryan) Hale, Spencer “Spanky” (Marie Rotella) Hall, Baina Mutabihirwa, Aaron Gonzalez, Erica (Mike) Shook, Amber (Jason) Roszman and Brandy Wolfe; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela “Bubba” Hall; and five siblings, Audrey Bowling, Robert Williams, Barbara Smathers, Mildred Butcher and Roger Williams.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey and from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service on Tuesday. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, at the funeral home with the Rev. James Stauffer officiating.
