Shirley Tucker
The short and mighty Shirley Dee Tucker, 84, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022, at Signature Health Care in Galion, with her daughter, Lori and granddaughter, Jaiden by her side.
Shirley was born in Greenup, Ky., on May 2, 1938, to the late WM Dee and Emma (Nunley) Kelly. When Shirley was an infant her family moved to the Sycamore area; here, she attended school and graduated from Sycamore High School in 1956.
After graduating, Shirley worked for GE Timken Roller Bearing. Here, she met her husband-to-be, Jack W. Tucker. The two were married on Nov. 21, 1964. Together Shirley and Jack made Sycamore home, raising two children and watching their grandchildren grow. Jack preceded Shirley in death on Dec. 7, 2014.
Shirley had a feisty personality and a very giving soul. She helped raise many of her siblings after her parents passed away and was always present for her children. She loved her daily visits to her daughter’s house to spend time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Shirley could often be found watching “car racing” on TV or playing “the bowling game” on her tablet.
Shirley will be missed for her strong-willed and independent personality by her children, Lori (David) McLaughlin of Sycamore, and Michael Alan (Christy) Tucker of New Franklin; grandchildren, Jaiden (Tyler Boyd) McLaughlin Boyd, Deegan James McLaughlin and Noa Jo McLaughlin; great-grandchildren, Haislee DeeAnn, Kashton Hank James and Knox Henry Jennings; siblings, Emma Lou Caudill of Sycamore, Sarah Ann Curlis of Sycamore, Roma Jane Cartwright of California, and William Ned Kelly of Sycamore; along with countless nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Dena and Michelle; siblings, Carl Eugene Kelly and Maxine Sue Cartwright; and infant brother, Cecil Kelly.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 14, from 1-3 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. A funeral will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
