Lois Prater

Lois A. Prater, 89, of Carey, passed away peacefully at 4:02 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022, at Independence House in Fostoria with family by her side.
Born Jan. 18, 1933, in Carey, she was the daughter of William D. and Geneva B. (Nutter) Dill. She married Herbert R. Prater on Feb. 5, 1949, in Greenup, Ky. Herb preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2009.
Lois was a woman with a big heart, especially when it came to her family. She loved spending time with them. Spoiling the grandchildren was her number one priority. Baking was her specialty, not only for her family, but also for many people in the community. Smiles were put on many faces because of her talent. For relaxation, Lois enjoyed sitting down to a good book. She felt reading helped keep her mind sharp.
Lois leaves behind six children, Judith (David) Kirian of Jacksonville, Fla.; Cynthia (Sam) Atkins of Carey, Sarah (Donald) Gois of Weston, Susan (Keith) Stoneburner of Upper Sandusky, Lisa (Samuel) Sherman of Tiffin and Timothy (Teresa) Prater of Vanlue; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by two sisters, Jane (Roger) Bame of Findlay and Ruth (William) Miller of Bellefontaine and many nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter, a great-grandson, four brothers, George, Ken, Charlie and Bill Dill; and two sisters, Margaret Barth and Sarah Swartz.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. The funeral service for Lois will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday with the Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dorcas Carey Public Library or Bridge Home Health and Hospice and sent to the funeral home.
