Grace Messmer
Grace Lynette Messmer, 87, of Wharton, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday Oct. 20, 2022, at Fox Run Manor. She was born on Aug. 10, 1935, in Wharton, to Wayne I. and R. Opal (Price) Cole. Grace married Earl Junior Messmer on Aug. 18,1951, and he preceded her in death on July 11, 2013.
Surviving is a son, Jack (Pam) Messmer of Forest; daughters, Jenny (Leroy) Clark of Carey, Judy (Grant) Yeater of Carey, and Jody (Jim) Bowman of Edison; 13 grandchildren, Keith (Christa) Messmer, Kevin (Valerie) Messmer, Kasey Messmer, Alissa (Brett) Farmer, Andrea (Adam) Shoop, Kyle (Krista) Clark, Brandi (Nick) Miller, Brooke (John) Greathouse, Amy (Todd) Puckett, Kara (Chad) Mowery, Andrew (Shelby) Yeater, Conrad (Melissa) Bowman and Tiffany (Brandon) Wilson; 26 great grandchildren, Justine, Collin and Kaitlyn Messmer, Taylor, Brenna and Addie Farmer, Evan and Cade McDaniel, Henley and Aria Shoop, Tyler, Hayden, Logan, Karsyn, Kyzer, Kolt and Karter Clark, Trey and Aliyah Greathouse, Bryce and Kalen Puckett, Koen and Cwyn Mowery, Peyton, Kendall and Austin Bowman; and a sister, Connie (Greg) Swartz of Tiffin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Jim Messmer and grandchild, Cory Kiehne.
Grace worked at Chief Dairy in Upper Sandusky. She was a cook and custodian for Riverdale Schools for 20 years. Grace was an active life member of Wharton United Methodist Church and belonged to the church ladies group. She was a Brownie leader, Cub Scout den mother and 4-H advisor. Grace enjoyed camping, reading and watching TV. She and her husband were avid fans of Riverdale Falcons and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Visitation for Grace will be held Sunday, Oct. 23, from noon-2 p.m. at Bringman Clark Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. A funeral will be held on Monday, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Betsy Bowen officiating. Burial will follow at Wharton Richland Union Cemetery, Wharton. Memorial contributions may be made to Riverdale Athletic Department, Wharton United Methodist Church or charity of the donor’s choice in care of Bringman Clark Funeral Home, 226 E.
