Jacki Prater

Jacki Sue Prater, 59, of Carey, passed away peacefully at 7:22 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023, at her residence with family by her side. Born April 17, 1964, in Fostoria, she was the daughter of David Bateson and Adeline (Gangwer) Martens. Her mother and step-father, Robert Martens, survive in Fostoria, as well as her step-mother, Barbara Bateson.
Jacki graduated from Fostoria High School in 1982. Jacki was known for her work hard mentality, whether it was at Budd Company (15 years), Kasai (retired after 20 years) or the past year-long battle for life. She was not one to give up mainly due to her love for her family, especially her daughters. Jacki and her daughters always looked forward to spending vacations at Myrtle Beach, S.C., and road trips to Amish country. She enjoyed watching the OSU Buckeyes and collecting Precious Moments figurines.
Jacki loved to socialize and relax with her friends. She was a member of Eagles Aerie 2198 Auxiliary, where she was a past madame president and trustee. She was also a life member of VFW Auxiliary 3759 and member of American Legion Auxiliary 334, all of Carey.
Jacki is survived by her daughters, Amber (Adam) Powers and Brianna Prater, both of Carey; four sisters, Lynn Wickham, Lesa (Dan) Hyatt and Paula (George) Werts, all of Carey, and Robin McFaull, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two brothers, Tim (Lori) Bateson of Cincinnati and Kevin (Brenda) Bateson of Fostoria. She has spent the past 20 plus years living in Carey with her companion, Charlie Dotson.
She was preceded in death by her father and granddaughter, Alexa R. Powers.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
Jacki’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, at the funeral home with the Rev. Oyama Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
Memorial contributions may be given in Jacki’s name to Bridge Home Health and Hospice and sent to the funeral home.
