Richard Yingling
Richard Martin “Dick” Yingling passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2023, just shy of his 83rd birthday. He was born January 31, 1940 in Tiffin, to Robert Leo and Adefern (Laney) Yingling. His family moved to Carey, where he met his beloved wife of 43 years, the late Margie Ann (Tucker) Yingling.
He is survived by their five sons, Douglas R. and wife Karen, of Fullerton, Calif.; Michael D. and wife Kathy, of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; Dean C. and wife Carol, of Fenton, Mo.; Anthony R. of Manchester, Mo.; and John R. and wife Chris, of Springfield, Mo.
He is also survived by brother, Dennis (Karen) Yingling; sister Leah (the late Dan) Cutchall; sister-in-law, Doris (the late Chuck) Baldridge; and sister-in-law, Carol (Dave) Abel.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brother, Raymond (Phyllis) and sister, Lana (Tom) Egbert. He is also predeceased by five brothers/sisters-in-law and their spouses, Ted (Dolly) Tucker, Lucille (Alvin) Henry, Charles (Corky) Tucker, Carl (Jane) Tucker and Charlotte (Dean) Billock.
Dick was the proud grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 13. A dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Father to five boys by the age of 25, Dick often worked two jobs to keep food on the table, allowing Margie to be at home with the boys in their formative years. He worked for 50 years in the food business, primarily in sales, for which he had much passion and skill. He moved his family from Findlay to Kirkwood, Mo., in 1973 when he was promoted to district sales manager for Durkee Foods. After Durkee was acquired by competitors, Dick moved into the food brokerage business representing brands like Johnsonville and Holten. He retired from Hawley Brokerage.
He was active in his son’s pursuits: Boy Scouts, football and Little League baseball in Ohio and then in the Kirkwood Khoury League (coach and manager), Junior Football League (past president) and Pioneer Boosters (past president). He was proud of all his son’s careers and accomplishments and maintained a keen interest in all his grandchildren as well.
He enjoyed travelling on annual ski trips to Breckinridge and other special trips to destinations like Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Europe and many road trips throughout the U.S.
After retiring he enjoyed spending time with his family, volunteering at the Ronald McDonald house, being a trustee in his sub-division, serving on the fire district planning committee, attending White House Jesuit retreats, annual Turkey Day breakfasts, events with associates at the St. Louis Area Food Association, poker with his friends and well-earned time in his recliner watching Gunsmoke.
Dick always had a story to tell that entertained family and friends alike. He lived his best life and will be missed by all that had the honor to know him.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, on Sunday, July 2, from 1-3 p.m. Dick’s cremated remains will be interred at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
