Constance Komarek
Constance Eileen “Connie” Komarek, 78, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away Monday, July 10, 2023, at Desert Haven Adult Care Home after injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Connie was born in Carey, on Sept. 27, 1944, the eldest of six children, to the late Virginia E. Ritter. Connie grew up in Carey; here, she graduated high school and was on the cheerleading team. Shortly after graduating high school, she married Arthur Ernest Pratt, the father of her three children; they later divorced.
Connie enjoyed giving back to the community as a teacher’s aide for more than 30 years. During her time with the Carey School District, she enjoyed helping children learn to read and reach their highest potential. While working for the schools, Connie met James T. “Jim” Komarek, a fifth and sixth grade teacher. The two were soon married on July 21, 1978. After their retirement the two relocated to Arizona. Jim preceded Connie in death on June 14, 1995.
Connie was a fashion first woman. She loved to be dressed to the nines no matter where she went and was always on the hunt for a good deal. She could often be found browsing the aisles at the 99-cent store and Walmart. Connie didn’t know the word “stranger” and would talk to anyone for hours on end. She enjoyed spending time at the Moose and VFW where she would help at any event.
In Connie’s free time, she could be found watching one of her thousands of DVDs, exercising with friends or enjoying a good glass of wine. Being a woman of faith, Connie was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Carey and read her Bible religiously.
Connie will be missed by her daughters, Wendy (Deb Waltman) Strozeski of Tucson, Ariz., and Misty Beadnell of Findlay; grandchildren, Tyler (Rachel) Jones, Holden and Logan Beadnell, Dustin Strozeski, Amber Pratt, Ashley (Brandon) Goble and Wyatt Pratt; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Glory Stalter and Terry Hoffman-Gibson-Sherman; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Pratt; husband, Jim; and siblings, Darla, Dale and Floyd Hoffman.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, on Thursday, July 20, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. A 3:30 p.m. funeral will be held at the funeral home and burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Connie’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be sent to the funeral home.
