Edna Perkins

Edna C. Perkins, 88, of Carey, passed away peacefully at 10:14 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, at her residence with her family by her side.
Born April 28, 1935, in Riceville, Ky., she was the daughter of Paris and Malta (Hannah) Conley. She married Dick Perkins on June 8, 1951. Dick preceded her in death on July 11, 1990.
Edna loved to learn, but was not able to graduate from high school. After her children were raised, she earned her GED. In her early years, she worked at Porcelain Products and Swan Rubber, both in Carey. She retired from RCA in Findlay after 13 years. However, her love of children led her to babysitting for over 100 Carey area children. They definitely kept her young.
Edna’s family meant everything to her. She especially enjoyed preparing meals and spending the holidays with them. Gardening was both a hobby and necessity as she and Dick raised their family. Edna also had a love of music. It ranged from bluegrass to heavy metal, depending on her mood. Just for kicks, she learned to play the banjo.
Edna will be sadly missed by her three children, Helen (Jeff) Nye, Johnny (Barbie) Perkins and Joey (Ann) Perkins, all of Carey; daughter in-law, Donna Perkins; eight grandchildren, Pamela, Carrie, Ashley, Levi, Kristal, Nikki, Matthew and Chevy; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Caudill of Lucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Phillip Perkins; and eight siblings, Carl Conley, Myrtle Patrick, Burnice Conley, Bethel Conley, Bayless Conley, William Douglas Conley, Beatrice Conley and Merlin Jean Taylor.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Edna’s service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Turner and the Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice or American Cancer Society and sent to the funeral home.
