Melinda Kitzler

Melinda (Mindy) K. Kitzler, 70, of Carey, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at Bridge Hospice in Findlay, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mindy was born in Carey on March 2, 1953, to the late Wendel and Barbara (Johnson) Myers. After graduating from Carey High School, Mindy continued her education at Defiance College where she earned a degree in education.
Mindy was introduced to Mark Kitzler and the rest was history. The two were wed on July 14, 1978, at Christ Lutheran Church in Carey. Mindy and Mark enjoyed raising their three children and loving their grandchildren. Mindy was the first person to spoil her grandkids and made sure no one left her house hungry. She was family-famous for her homemade lasagna, chocolate pies and strawberry pies. Mindy always made holidays special, especially Christmas and Easter with the excitement of giving gifts and hiding Easter eggs.
Mindy was a lifelong educator in Carey. She worked for 32 years for the Carey Schools where she taught kindergarten, first and second grade. Many students to this day still remember her as one of their favorite teachers.
Mindy had a love of water and fishing. While growing up, she would spend summers on Lake Erie on her family’s sailboat. Her love of water continued and she and Mark spent countless weekends and summers on their boat fishing while enjoying their place at the lake.
Mindy will be missed by her husband, Mark Kitzler of Carey; children, Joshua (Denee) Kitzler of McComb, Jay (Jaclyn) Kitzler of Carey, and Holly (Craig) Roof of Carey; grandchildren, Makenna, Kyia, Allison, Brayden, Olivia, Cooper and Carson; and brother, Mike (Marilyn) Myers of Texas.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Kim Myers.
The burial will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home in Carey.
