George Bowen
George V. Bowen, 88, of Upper Sandusky, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023, at Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Upper Sandusky.
George was born on Feb. 25, 1935, in Upper Sandusky, to Miller and Bernice (Coons) Bowen. He married Beverly A. Armstrong on Feb. 20, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky and she preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2015.
George is survived by his three children, Lynn and her husband Daniel Kilgore of Florida, Jeffrey and his wife Betsy Bowen, Gregory and his wife Debbie Bowen, both of Upper Sandusky; along with three grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Cheryl Bowen, Jillian and her husband Travis Yeater and Kristy and her husband Nathan Crum; nine great-grandchildren, Cole, Clayton, Melanie and Walter Bowen, Levi and Adriane Yeater, Oliver, Bailey and Isabel Crum and one more on the way. George is also survived by his brother Roger and his wife Jane Bowen of Upper Sandusky.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beverly, and his brother, Donald Bowen.
George attended Upper Sandusky High School where he was involved in FFA and he graduated in 1953. George was a fifth generation hands on farmer and he was an Oliver Tractor man. He was a lifelong member of John Stewart United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Wyandot Camping Club, the Farm Bureau Council and the Wyandot County Horseshoe Club.
For hobbies George enjoyed playing dart ball, going bowling, playing euchre and throwing horseshoes. George was always very generous and he was a dedicated family man. A funeral service for George Bowen will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by the Rev. Doug Pummel. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky. Visitations will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Avenue, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
