Doris J. Thomas

A memorial service for Doris Jean Thomas, 92, a resident of Primrose Retirement Community, Findlay, and formerly of Carey, will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Carey, with the Rev. William P. Schultz officiating.

Mrs. Thomas died on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, surrounded by her family.

Visitation for family and friends will be at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, on Friday, Nov. 17, from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 10-11 a.m.

Doris was born July 20, 1925, in Ridge Township, Wyandot County, to Carl and Cora (Zahn) Bachman and married Dale E. Thomas on Jan. 19, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 2007.

Surviving are four children: Judith (Thomas) Tucker, Fremont; Jean (Patrick) Miller, Munster, Ind.; Edwin (Brenda) Thomas, McCutchenville; Eldon (Edna Campos) Thomas, Houston, Texas; special friends Tom and Mary Rettig, Upper Sandusky; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Thomas, Willoughby. Preceding her in death were: her parents; two sisters, Margaret Robison and Elizabeth McCarley; daughter-in-law Diana Thomas; infant brother; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Thomas was a 1943 graduate of Carey High School. In addition to being a partner with her husband on their dairy farm in rural Carey, she was a Ridge Township clerk and retired from Cheney Chevrolet in Carey. She was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church, Priscilla Circle, Lutheran Church Women and volunteered at the Carey Food Pantry. Doris enjoyed vacation trips to Hawaii, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, Mexico, Washington, D.C., and especially the fishing trips to Bay Villa in Whitefish Falls, Ontario, Canada. Doris spent many hours playing euchre, Skip-bo, golf and other card games and teaching her children and grandchildren how to play as well. She also loved to read all kinds of books, devotionals and her Bible.
