Rose Kessler

Rose Ann Kessler, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019.

She was born May 31, 1942, in Tiffin to Elizabeth and Leo Lucius.  Rose grew up and lived most of her life in Ohio and was married to James (Jim) Kessler for 51 years before his passing in May of 2016.  The eldest of seven, she was always a caregiver and retired from Blanchard Valley Hospital after 30 years of working as a nurse.

In May of 2007, she and Jim sold their home in New Rigel and sold whatever they couldn’t fit into a small trailer and moved to Whidbey Island, Wash., to be closer to their son and grandchildren. She and Jim found joy in exploring their new surroundings, taking trips with the senior center, attending church and hitting the casinos. She was also very excited to be welcoming her first great-granddaughter, Adeline, this spring.

She is survived by a son, Daryl (wife Brandy); grandson, Andrew; granddaughter, Carly Grassman (husband Cody); sisters, Janet Lucius, Mary Lucius, Karen Lucius and Brenda Lucius; and brothers, Larry Lucius and David Lucius. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James; son, Anthony; parents, Elizabeth and Leo Lucius; and nephew, Daniel Lucius.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Oak Harbor, Wash., on March 2 at 10 a.m. A private family celebration of her life will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation, in her name, to your favorite charity or find the nearest slot machine and try your luck.

Arrangements are being handled by Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
