Carl Sizemore

Carl  Sizemore, 83, of Carey, passed peacefully at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born April 5, 1937 in Greenup, Ky., he was the son of H.E. and Mary A. (Wright) Sizemore. He married Sara Gracia on Feb. 9, 1963. Sara survives in Carey.
He is survived by two daughters, Carmen M. Herber of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Carla J.S. Towers of Carey; a son, Devin (Mary) Sizemore of Carey; seven grandchildren, Sara Alexander, Logan Herber, Spencer Herber, Jylian Towers, Scarlett, Sydney and Sienna Sizemore; two great-granddaughters, Annsley and Maelyn Alexander; and two sisters, June Schwemley of Florida and Carol (Larry) Cole of Findlay.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sandra Sizemore; and three sisters, Charlene Fuller, Betty Bland and Janet Toland.
A 1955 graduate of Carey High School, Carl went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army before settling back in Carey to begin his career and raise his family. He worked for J.F. Dible and Sons Plumbing in Carey and retired as a foreman for Guenther Heating and Plumbing in Ashland. Carl, along with his dad, farmed and ran a successful harness horse racing business. His love was tinkering on the family farm, whether farming, restoring vintage tractors or mowing his yard with perfect lines. He took pride in his family and whatever he did.
He was a member of the American Legion 344 in Carey, American Trotters Association, the B.P.O.E. 83 in Upper Sandusky and the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union 42 in Norwalk.
Carl loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren. Carl enjoyed making people laugh with his great sense of humor and a quick dry wit. He enjoyed sharing those attributes with his breakfast buddies at Splinter’s Cafe or Bob’s Countryside Golf Course.
Friends were scheduled to be received from 2-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. The funeral service was scheduled to follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Sturgeon officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Carey Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wyandot County Fair Board and sent to Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay Street, Carey, OH 43316.
