Sallie Gery
Sallie Adele Magargle Gery was born on Nov. 1, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pa. Her parents were Charles T. Magargle and Eleanor N. Rheiner. Sallie was an only child who loved the Jersey Shore and drawing from a very young age. She graduated from Allentown High School in 1940 and Moravian College in 1942. After going to art school in New York City, she became a commercial artist. In 1948 she married Nathan J. Gery in Allentown. They had two children, James S. Gery (Vivian Baker) of Carey, and Sally L. Gery Sanchez (Carlos Sanchez) of Kailua, Hawaii.
Sallie was a full-time homemaker who also worked part-time at home as a commercial artist for Hesses and Lehs department stores and SeaNymph swimwear. In later life she became a real enthusiast of genealogy and was an accomplished artist, painting oil as well as watercolor still life and landscapes.
After her husband, Nate, passed in 1987, Sallie remained in the Allentown area enjoying a group of close friends and relatives. In recent years she moved to Carey to live with her son and his wife. She has resided at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky since 2019.
Sallie is survived by her children, James and Sally; seven grandchildren, Rob (Grace) Gery, Michael Gery, Jeffrey (Megan) Gery, Allison (Erick) Gery Jones, Adrienne Gery, Lauren (Garrett) Sanchez Bell and Carly Sanchez; and 10 great-grandchildren. Sallie also had a close loving relationship with her nieces and nephews from the Weiss family in Allentown, Pa.
At Sallie’s request, she has been cremated and the family will have a graveside service in Northwood Cemetery in Emmaus, Pa., at a later date.
