Susan C. Stowe, 54, of Carey, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at her home.
Born Jan. 20, 1966, in New Brighton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Leonard R. and Florence R. (Snyder) Johnston. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas J. Stowe on Sept. 30, 1989, in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. He survives in Carey. She will be missed by her surviving aunts, Juanita Kast, Est Weiss and Billie Landsbach and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eric L. (infant) and Leonard R. Johnston II.
Susan was a skilled and avid softball player in her youth, playing on many teams and coached by her beloved uncle, Wayne Snyder. Susan graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1984 and received an associate’s degree from Penn State University. She then joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Sill, Okla., where she played saxophone in the U.S. Army band.
She loved her life as a homemaker. Baking, cooking and tending to her home made her happy. She enjoyed getting involved with community fund-raisers, volunteering at the Carey Historical Society and was a former member of the Carey Fire Department Auxiliary.
Susan and Tom shared a love for model trains. She assisted Tom with some elaborate train layouts over the years. They also enjoyed scuba diving and kayaking together. Whatever she did was done with passion.
At Susan’s request, there will be no visitation or service at this time. She will be cremated and placed in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, Pa., at a later date.
Arrangements were handled by Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
