Patricia Brashares

Patricia D. “Patty” (Courtad) Brashares, 87, formerly of Carey, passed away peacefully in Indiana surrounded by her children and close family on Jan. 23, 2021, after a brief illness.
Patty is survived by her children, Debbie (Jeff) Wolfenden, Cindy (Jim) Stephens, Bob Brashares, Ron Brashares, Brenda Brashares, Don (Beth) Brashares and Judi Brashares; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a brother, Jim (Cindy) Courtad and many nieces and nephews.
Patty was born on March 4, 1933, in Carey to the late Clarence “Shang” and Leona (Rall) Courtad. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Brashares; daughter, Lyndia; grandson, Alex; great-granddaughter, Preston; brother, Tom Courtad; and three sisters, Donna Fabiani, Jennie Courtad and Nancy Vogel.
After marrying Bob in 1954, she devoted herself to raising their eight children while living in Alabama. She also helped take care of and teach special needs children.
Patty was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey and it’s Rosary Altar Society. She was also a member of the American Legion 344 Auxiliary and a life member of the VFW 3759 Auxiliary, both in Carey.
Patty loved her church and living in Carey. She enjoyed putting puzzles together, reading and sewing. She cherished visiting her friends in the nursing homes.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey with the Rev. Tom Merrill, OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carey. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and sent to Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay Street, Carey, OH 43316. Your condolences may be expressed to them by visiting
