Mario Hernandez

Mario Hernandez, 74, of Fostoria, passed away at 9:35 a.m. Saturday May 29, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 14, 1947, in Laredo, Texas, to the late Juan and Maria (Garcia) Hernandez. He married Maria Aurora Hernandez March 10, 1967, and she passed away in 1993. He then married Maria Linda Montez in November 1994 and they divorced in 2015.
Surviving are children, Maria Luisa Hernandez, University Heights; San Juana “Jayne” Hernandez, Fostoria; and Mario (Ruth) Hernandez Jr., Laredo, Texas; grandchildren, Gavino (Mariana), Maria Aurora, Mario and Adriel; great-granddaughters, Naya and Alya; brothers, Jose A. Hernandez, Fostoria; Armando (Veronica) Hernandez, Laredo; Oscar (Linda) Hernandez, Carey; sisters, Lucinda Martinez, Rebecca (Jamal) Rafati and Imalda Ramos, all of Laredo; and also included in the family, Cesar (Marcella) Portillo, Fostoria; Daniel, Joseph and Christian and Arcello (Bernadette) Quiroz, Fostoria; Zaynah and Jeremiah. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Alfredo and Juan Hernandez Jr.; and sister, Yolanda Flores. He had many nieces, nephews and god-children that he deeply loved.
Mario had worked several seasons for Great Western Sugar, Findlay, former Copeland, Fostoria, 16 years and Budd Company, Carey, for 20 years.
Mario was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and its Guadalupe Society, Fostoria. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, before moving to Fostoria in 2001.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 4, from 3-7 p.m. at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wendelin Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Poggemeyer presiding. A rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at St.Mary’s Cemetery, Carey.
