Shirley Bond
Shirley A. Bond, of Gahanna, passed away Oct. 16, 2021, at 7:15 a.m. in Dublin; formerly of Upper Sandusky, Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island, S.C., Shirley was born April 19, 1934, in Dayton, where she was raised and graduated from Jefferson Township High School.
She was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Dora Moore of LaRue, and two brothers, Donald and Norman. She is survived by brother, Gerald (Rothadelle) Moore and sister, Marjorie (Vernon) Huston. She is also survived by five children, Patti (Dean) Nickless, Alan (Sandra) Bond, Mike (Cheryl) Bond, Melissa Bond and Kelle Bond, as well as 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Shirley was a musician, playing baritone, tenor and alto saxophone in her youth and then tenor and alto saxophone in the Fostoria Community Band, North Myrtle Beach Community and Swing Bands. She also played piano and sang, always sharing her love of music with everyone she met. An accomplished seamstress, she made many costumes and clothes for stage, children, grandchildren and friends alike, she also made beautiful dolls. She was active in the Bucyrus Little Theater and as well as the Star Players Community Theater in the 1960’s thru 1980’s. She participated in the Senior Olympics in Ohio in the late 90’s before moving to South Carolina in 1998, medaling in race walking.
A visitation will be at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 1-3 p.m. We will be celebrating the life and talents of our mother/grandmother/sister and would like you to join us in sharing memories.
The family requests that masks be worn while in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating in her name, to either Columbus Humane Animal Shelter or Nationwide Children’s Hospital and memorials may be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Avenue, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
