John Swindler

John Edward Swindler, 72, of Wharton, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, at his home.
John was born in Tiffin, on April 14, 1949, to the late Glenn Swindler and Lucille (Kemerley) Swindler-Haines. John grew up in Wharton and graduated from Riverdale High School in 1967.
After graduating, John worked for the Pontiac dealership in Carey as a mechanic. Later, John worked for Liqui-Box in Upper Sandusky as a maintenance specialist. During his time here, he took classes at Tri-Rivers in Marion where he learned how to work on the injection molds. John retired in 2010.
John was a quiet man, but never met a stranger. He loved to share his knowledge of Tiffin, Carey, Upper Sandusky and especially Wharton. John could often be found working on cars and once he was no longer able to do the work, he was the first person to say how it should be done. John will be remembered for his collections of just about everything. He had every tool possible, gumball machines galore, meat grinders and more fishing poles than Bass Pro. John was no stranger to flea markets and if there was a garage sale within 25 miles he would be there.
Above all John was a family man. He loved his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything. When John was in the mood to cook, he was family-famous for his baked beans and ham salad. When he didn’t want to cook he could be found enjoying a good Chinese buffet.
John instilled a love of motorcycles and hard work to his daughter and grandchildren and was willing to give anyone the shirt off of his back. Taking his grandchildren fishing was a favorite pastime; they could be found on every legal, and maybe not so legal, pond or lake which had fish anyplace in Ohio.
John will be missed by his daughter, Catina “Candy” M. (Matthew) Butler of Upper Sandusky; grandchildren, Elisha (Justin) Pasch of Findlay, Ostin (Mandie) Butler of Wharton, and Lydia Butler of Upper Sandusky; great-grandchildren, Noah, Mason, Grace, Brayden and Chloe; former wife, Victoria (Young) Swindler; and half-sister, Jennifer Stump.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, James Swindler in 1993.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey on Thursday, March 24, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral will be held 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday. Friends may call one hour prior to the service and burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
